The Sarods of the Khan Family

Ustadh Ali Akbar Khan is the legendary Sarod player who is known for introducing the Western World to Hindustani / Indian Classical Music. He established the Ali Akbar College of Music in 1967 in San Rafael, CA.  The Khan Family comes from a 500-year family legacy tracing its roots back to the Muslim court musician Tansen of the great Mughal Dynasty of India.

I was born and raised in CA and grew up with Alam and Manik Khan (the last two sons of Ustadh Ji), Ustadh Ali Akbar Khan did the groundbreaking ceremony at the Shiva Vishnu Temple in Livermore, CA, the Hindu temple my father helped build (though Alam, Manik, and I were babies when this happened and don't remember!) we will always share a special bond.

In a world full of hate and divisions (Hindu/Muslim animosity) Here stands a Giant Hindu Temple in the USA with a Muslim musician’s name etched on the wall!

Music has the POWER to UNITE and knows no religion. My name, Sangeetha means "Music" in Sanskrit.

I have created 3 Sarod Designs all in Arabic Calligraphy inspired by my love and respect for the Khan Family and my training in Hindustani music. Each design has a unique story behind the art and three is an auspicious number in both Islam and Hinduism.
