THE METROPOLITAN
MUSEUM OF ART
Founder Sangeetha Kowsik led product design at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, collaborating with 17 curatorial departments and over 10 product teams across the institution. Many of the Met’s product designs seen today were developed under her leadership, shaping the visual language of museum retail and exhibition merchandise.
Her work supported numerous blockbuster exhibitions, spanning textiles, jewelry, accessories, packaging, home décor, gifts, publications, branding, and exhibition design, translating art historical scholarship into museum products
while engaging audiences through contemporary design.
To support the reopening of the Islamic galleries, Sangeetha earned a formal degree in Arabic and Islamic calligraphy, bringing scholarly faith and cultural fluency to the design process.
Beyond design, Sangeetha founded the internship and mentorship program that expanded access for international students and students of color, advocating for greater equity, representation, and accuracy in how global faiths and cultures are presented within museum spaces.
Sangeetha worked closely with curators at the Met across departments, including Asian Art, Islamic Art, AAOA, Medieval Art, and beyond, friendships that remain active today. These partnerships continue to inform Ihsan Ishan Design’s approach to museum work, grounded in rigorous research, respect, and creative dialogue, while shaping the ongoing design and development of museum products that educate, inspire, and connect visitors across cultures.
